Compound Overview & Technical Mechanism

LL-37 is the sole human member of the cathelicidin family of host-defense peptides, cleaved from the C-terminal domain of human cationic antimicrobial protein 18 (hCAP-18). Structurally characterized as an amphipathic alpha-helical peptide carrying a net positive charge (+6 at neutral pH), LL-37 exhibits high biological activity across multiple innate immune pathways.

In laboratory and industrial bio-assays, LL-37 functions via dual direct membrane disruption and complex immunomodulatory signaling:

Membrane Interaction & Pore Formation: Electrostatic binding to negatively charged bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and phospholipids disrupts microbial cell membranes.
Biofilm Inhibition: Inhibits quorum sensing and bacterial cell adhesion, preventing the formation of persistent microbial biofilms.
Receptor-Mediated Immunomodulation: Interacts with Formyl Peptide Receptor-Like 1 (FPRL-1/FPR2) and Toll-like receptors (TLRs) to modulate cytokine expression, chemotaxis, and cellular proliferation pathways.

The freeze-dried 5mg vial format ensures exact quantitative handling and rapid reconstitution, minimizing mass variance across multi-trial experimental runs.

What Industrial Chemical Users Look For

When commercial procurement managers, industrial chemists, and laboratory directors source bulk antimicrobial peptides and chemical compounds, core requirements include:

Verified Analytical Purity: Full lot characterization via High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) to verify exact target mass and sequence identity.
Scalable Master Ordering: High-volume inventory access ensuring project continuity and bulk delivery schedules for commercial facilities.
Vacuum Lyophilization & Thermal Stability: Vacuum freeze-drying prevents peptide hydrolysis, oxidation, and structural degradation during transit and storage.
Batch-to-Batch Mass Accuracy: Controlled quantitative filling guarantees exact unit mass allocation across single-vial or master-pack orders.
Chain-of-Custody & Fast Logistics: Reliable domestic shipping pipelines equipped with protective, temperature-managed packaging to maintain material integrity.

Key Applications in Research & Industrial Settings

In Vitro Antimicrobial & Antifungal Screening: Evaluating minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values across Gram-positive and Gram-negative reference bacterial strains.
Biofilm Disruption Models: Measuring structural degradation of established microbial matrices and quorum sensing inhibition.
Inflammatory & Chemotactic Assays: Quantifying immune cell migration, chemokine secretion, and TLR pathway modulation in cell cultures.
Epithelial Barrier & Angiogenesis Research: Investigating cellular repair, migration velocity, and microvascular tube formation in endothelial and keratinocyte models.
